The Abiquiu area of northern New Mexico is one of my favorite locales to paint. Driving back after an afternoon of painting on the road to the monastery, I noticed the special light and color as I approached the highway. Compelled to stop to take a closer look, I snapped several photographs to use for future paintings. Blooming chamisa has become one of my favorite motifs so it became the focal point for this painting.
