Acrylic and kaolinite mineral on canvas

10” x 10” x 1.5 “

The Sherds of Memories series are particular pieces influenced by the many pottery sherds I have discovered while I work doing archaeological surveying. As I hike many miles, I come across the different styles and colors of pottery hisat’sinom (people of long ago), my ancestors, created and left behind to mark their footprints across the land. I see beautiful designs that represent mountains, water, animals, migrations, the weather, and many other activities my ancestors came across hundreds of years ago. Sherds of Memories are exactly that, the memories built into the pottery by my ancestors left behind for me to wonder and admire. These paintings were created with acrylic paints with a color palette that includes variations from the hisat’sinom pottery.
