Born to a Hopi father and a Choctaw mother, Linda Lomahaftewa is a visionary printmaker, painter, and mixed-media artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A trailblazer in contemporary Indigenous art, she was part of the first class of students at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and later earned her BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her career spans decades of artistic innovation and mentorship, including teaching at the University of California, Berkeley, and Sonoma State University before dedicating over 40 years to IAIA. Her work, rich in symbolism and cultural storytelling, has been exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2001, she received the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation's prestigious Power of Art Award, recognizing her profound impact on the art world. Through her dynamic compositions, she continues to inspire new generations of artists.
