Confluencia: Contemporary Nuevomexico Art: Debbie Carrillo, Arla Lucia, Eric Romero, and Marcus Xavier

This grouping of artist brings together the people who’s art is inspiring, from photography in Marcus Xavier Chormicle's work, Debbie Carrillo's micaceous ware, beadwork by Arla Lucia, and oil painting by Eric Romero,  all of which the are at different points in their creative lives. This is a small cross section of those who are creating at a high level but the selected artists are well respected and will be seen as some of the best at what they done for many years to come. It is an intergenerational show in various media that will showcase the unique visions of those creating in New Mexico today. 

Debbie Carrillo, a well known New Mexican micaceous potter explores the colonial history of the Pueblo de Abiquiú through traditional pottery practices. Her hand-coiled, utilitarian micaceous vessels draw from pottery traditions made by Genízaro villagers in the 18th and 19th centuries, connecting historical craftsmanship with contemporary cultural storytelling.

Marcus Xavier Chormicle, is a photographer whose work focuses on grief and generational cycles of systemic violence and the history of the Southwestern territories of the United States through making make collages, land based installation, artist books and performance work that centers around his photographic works.

Arla Lucia, is a self taught artist based in New Mexico, she creates intricate, celestial-inspired floral beadwork and heirloom-quality personal adornments while teaching traditional techniques. A self-taught artist,

Eric Romero combines bold color and evocative metaphor to create compelling works that explore the intersections of myth, philosophy, and culture.
